About the Instructor
Christina Moroney is the theatre instructor at Sandy High School. She graduated from South Umpqua High School in 2000 and went on to the University of Oregon to earn her Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts (2004), then to Gonzaga University to earn a Master's degree in Teaching (2007). Before coming to Sandy, she spent six years running the theatre program at Roseburg High School in Roseburg, Oregon. She is licensed to teach Theatre and English, and is also a certified Reading Specialist. In the past, she has been a dance instructor/performer/competitor, a singer/songwriter competitor and judge, a karaoke DJ, an after-school program coordinator, an instructional assistant, and a caretaker at a child care center for formerly homeless children.
Christina teaches all areas of theatre, as well as performance-related non-theatre classes (see the 'Classes' link above for a listing and description of all the classes she offers at SHS). Before relocating to Sandy, Christina took advantage of community theatre opportunities in Roseburg (her former home) by performing onstage as well as holding a seat on their board of directors.
Christina believes that every person, no matter what age/interests/hobbies/opinions, can benefit from theatre education. Theatre teaches people how to be better listeners, how to work with others (even/especially if they don't get along), how to create something out of nothing, and how to find meaning and beauty in simple things. She also believes in the importance of bridging gaps and bringing communities together- this shows in her work creating a prop/costume/set exchange program between her previous school and local middle schools, community theatres, community colleges, and universities.
Christina lives with her husband Xavier, two dogs (Daphne and Velma), and a cat (Zeeba Neighba)..
